I’ve had the Cube for 2 and a half months now. It offers a wide range of effects, sufficient amplification for home practice, and…a wide of effects. The effects are really what this product is all about. What it lacks in power, it punches you in the face with various sound distortions. Acoustic, Heavy Metal, all these sounds are packed into this Cube.

Best of all, it’s small and portable! Like the vast majority, I am constrained by financial statement (who isn’t! :P ). While no qualified guitarist wants this, I consider it a excellent buy for most of us part-timers.

This is a fantastic product. Simple and portable -it makes a terrific sound and has multiple tunings and adjustments. Can run with the huge boys.

This was a gift for our US Marine Corp son who was looking for huge sound, a small trace, and portability. The Roland Cube certainly exceeded his expectations. It’s perfect for the barracks and will go with him on his next deployement.

I don’t usually write reviews unless I am pretty impressed with a product. This amp is fantastic. It is small and has a really fantastic sound. It is fantastic for a portable practice session anywhere. Pretty loud for 5 watts. Not enough to jam with drums of course. I bought one so I don’t have to power up my Mesa. I would compare the rectifier setting on this amp to Pantera distortion. The clean tone sounds fantastic for solid disorder. I even plug my electric acoustic into it for some extra volume. It has a lot of effects like delay, flange, reverb etc. You can choose one effect at a time and use them with clean or distortion. The battery option is fantastic so you could take it to the beach. Buy one, you won’t be disappointed.

i bought the cube because i wanted a less vital portable amp to take to work or on road trips. this has since become my main amp, easily besting my Marshall MG15DFX. the acoustic channel with reverb will do a nice job of simulating an acoustic, but its extremely silent. the JC Clean is a decent clean channel, but for cleans i prefer the Black Panel option, a small smoother cleans, with a bluesier sound to it. the R-fier mode is a bone-crunching metal tone, i use it for all metal, from sabbath to metallica, pantera, dethklok and everything in between. the effects are all very decent and work well. the only problem with this amp is the 2 remaining channels. the brit combo and classic stack are extremely thin. they are pretty much unusable, as they are very tinny, thin, and can make a 1000 dollar dean sound like a 90 dollar squier. those models aside, this amp is worth the money, and i am very pleased with this buy.

An ancient practice amp I had finally petered out after many years of use so I was in the market for another one. I was looking for something compact and cheap yet of honestly excellent quality and was recommended the Roland Microcube one day while browsing in a Guitar Center. First off I was amazed at the kind of sound that you could get out of this 2 watt amp! Plus the portability of it is matchless. It also runs on batteries which was a pleasant surprise! The effects that are bundled into this small practice amp is another added plus! Just for the effects alone I would have plopped down the money!

I have a Fender Stratocaster that sounded so excellent once I plugged it in and an Ovation Acoustic Electric which sounded crisp and clean as well! So if you’re looking for a nice practice amp that won’t break the pocketbook you can’t get any better than this IMHO.

You Tube this amp and see what I mean. This amp is a lot of fun and fantastic value for the money!

The selections as far as “amp modeling” are outstanding. The effects are OK, but the overall sound you get is awesome. It is only a 2-watt amp, but don’t pay too much attention to that; it is LOUD. Not a “gig’ amp, but perfect for recording and practicing without real drums. Everyone I show it to is just as blown away as I am. I have also hooked it up to larger amps and a PA system, and this thing really works well. Worth every penny, and then some.

I heard my brother playing his acoustic on a Roland Micro-cube and knew I had to have one .. the sound was so clean and rich without any of the fuzzy airy sound around the tone you sometimes hear from small cheap speakers. I’ve had mine for over a year and like the tone I get on my acoustic using the JC Clean setting with light effects. It also runs forever on just 6 AA batteries. Incredible. Last nighttime, I used my cube and acoustic to accompany a 13-voice a capella chamber group I direct. The cube was placed on top of the fireplace mantle in the room where we performed, about 4 feet high. One of my singers accidentally caught his foot in my guitar chord and the cube did a free fall onto the bricks below and landed with a solid, sickening thud. I thought it would be in a few pieces when I picked it up, but nothing had broken off and it was still in one piece. So I place it back on the mantle, adjusted some of the dial settings and turned it on. Surprise! It sounded fine and we were all incredulous. This is one tough small amp. I am so impressed at how like a log it is made but don’t try this at home!

I bought this as a practice amp for its small size, ability to run on battery power, and headphone jack. It’s met those wants and exceeded my expectations in several more areas.

The amp simulations the Micro Cube provides are, well let’s just say they’re vaguely reminiscent of the amps they are trying to emulate. The sounds still differ from one another enough to be useful, though, and this small box can pump out some serious (digital) distortion. It’s also honestly loud. Like the Pignose and other small amps, you can also mic this amp and get some really suprising results. Using the headphone jack as a line out will obviously yield pretty much the same result you’re hearing through the speaker, as the sound is entirely digital.

Effects aren’t too terrible. Trem is pretty excellent, reverb a notch behind, and I’d stay light on the Cube’s flanger and chorus. Forget the “digital tuning fork” – it’s just a button that generates a tone to tune to. Any kind of break tuner is far more useful.

Batteries seem to last forever with this thing. I’m amazed at the battery life, to be trustworthy.

Small, rugged, very usable as a practice amp, for street playing, recording experimentation, etc. Excellent stuff.

For 100 bucks this thing is fantastic. It has 3 distortion channels and 3 clean channels and mic channel which i never use because im not sure what its for. It also has 6 effects. I like using the cube frequently for clean as the distortions are kind of harsh to my ears. When i first heard this amp 2 years ago i was blown away with the delay and distortion effects…Today i dont prefer them as much..I frequently like the cleans..Sometimes with a small reverb. The effects are decent but arent the best. But i still rate it a 5 for the overall score because you dont get this many effects and sounds for 100 bucks. its a bargain and does blow away any standard cheap ss amp away any day

I bought this to practice with and — it’s really an incredible small amp. Incredible value for the money. It sounds like something 8 times it’s size and the amp modeling is extremely impressive.

I usually don’t write reviews, but I have to spread the word on this fantastic product.

I received this product with the corner of its shipping box significantly hurt. It had been repaired with clear tape apparently prior to shipment. Opportunely, the carton did its job and the amplifier was not hurt. I bought the amp to work in conjunction with a wireless microphone on a Native American flute. This, to provide the ‘Canyon echo’ effect heard on many flute CD’s. Using various combinations of the reins provide not only the desired echo sound but some pleasing and unexpected additional effects. I have only used the amp on 110 volt, so don’t know how long the batteries will last. My only negative comment is that I would prefer if the on/off power switch were located at the top of the unit with the rest of the control knobs rather than behind the amp. I’m very pleased with its performance. It makes my ‘flute tootin’ very nearly sound qualified.

iT WOULD BE EASY TO BLAME THE GUITAR BUT sOME OF MY FELLOW MUSIANS HAVE TRIED IT WITH THERE GUITAR ANS SAME THING.. MOST PRO-NOUNCED ON THE HIGHEST STRINGS.. ALL THE STRINGS HAVE THE SAME VOLUME OR DYNAMICS. WHETHER I PLAY MY 335 OR MY SOUTHWESTERN. ACOUSTIC. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ME AS I BUSK SOLO.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS, NOTHING ELSE TO COMPLANE ABOUT, MAYBE BATTERY LIFR. I ALSO OWN THE STREET CUBE WITH TWO SPEAKERS,UMPTEEN EFFECTS.BATTERY LASTS ABOUT 3 TIMES LONG.

PIEZO’S ARE FINICKY. I AM GLAD I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE ON A WHIM, I CAN GO TO THE BEACH AND WITH THE SOUND OF THE OCEAN COVERING MY COMPLAIN IT SOUNDS GREAT. oN A WHIM, i UPHOSTERED THE CUBE WITH LEAPORD SKIN THICK CLOTH.. SURE DOES GET MANY COMPLIMENTS ON WHICH GIVES ME A BREAK FROM PLAYING!

I knew nothing about amps prior to this buy, but I spent literally days reading all I could find. While I viewed dozens of sites overall, take a look at the buying guide at sweetwater if you too are a newbie and want a excellent, but succinct, overview of the basics. After I understood the various options I read hundreds of reviews (I am a just a small bit on the obsessive, compulsive side if you haven’t gathered that yet). The amp was a Christmas present for my son who also received a MIM Strat (that was a month-long research effort!). And yes, he is an extremely spoiled (but deserving) kid. But I didn’t want to spend too much as he is a beginner, and I wasn’t 100% certain he would stick with his playing. And as he goes away to college next year, portability was a certain factor. Based on all that and the fantastic reviews I read, I chose to go with this model.

After more than two months my son is still extremely pleased with it. It sounds fantastic, has just enough excellent effects to mess around with, it can go PLENTY loud, and the ability to carry it up and down the stairs, to his lessons, etc is fantastic. The batteries seemingly last forever and for a pretty small outlay, I reckon it doable that he doesn’t buy another amp for many years.

This amp is fantastic. The only thing that could make this amp better would be if they could somehow have made it tube driven while retaining the full low-level sound. I have a Marshall tube half stack and I find myself playing the microcube much more often. Not only do I keep my hearing, but I also get more versatility. Currently the micrcube is the only amp I play in my dorm room. This amp is perfect for beginners and just as perfect for the more experienced guitar player wanting to have some quite practice time. Fantastic amp!

I’ve had mine for about a year now. I bought it when I chose to teach myself guitar without breaking the bank. As I was living in an apartment with study-conscious roommates I wanted something that was easily packed up for moving, compelling over to a friend’s place, or praticing quietly. After watching some YouTube videos that demonstrated its sound and distortion functions (probably biased) I chose it was a low-risk investment.

I have to say that I was an absolute beginner to guitar, but not to music. My previous instruments were all brass and some piano. I lack the trained guitarist’s ears to discern fantastic amp sound from poor sound, so I can’t make any educated breakdown on the “warmth” or “solidity” of the sound. It could be the pickups on my guitar, my poor choice in wiring, etc. But again, for these reasons I had small to gain by buying an expensive amp for teaching myself.

I’ve never used the amp on battery power. I always have it plugged in with the built-in adapter. I also rarely play it without headphones on. I also use it for both electric guitar and electric bass. All of the built-in effects such as flanger, reverb, etc. I don’t ever really use unless I’m playing around, or want to hear a riff I just learned with amusing effects. They all seem to work just as well as effects pedals, but again I’m not a qualified. The dial that’s used for the different distortion levels (Black Panel, Classic, Brit Combo, etc.) I use all the time. If I’m working on, say, some Ozzie riffs I have it on the R-FIER for some legitimate-sounding metal guitar, no hassle. If I’m on my bass I usually set it to BLACK PANEL or JC CLEAN that sounds fantastic for Red Hot Chili Peppers songs. A lot of the more expensive apps don’t come with these effects (they are not “combo” amps) and require extra pedals, heads, etc. It really is nice having them on such a compact, inexpensive amp. Granted, the naming conventions for the distortion levels don’t make sense to me (what IS jc clean?) and I had to look in the instruction manual the first day to figure out which one I needed for metal.

The reason I knocked off a star is that if you are playing without headphones the speaker can sound a small terrible if turned up too high. It’s like how car speakers sound scratchy when the volume is up on the sub-par stock system. But I don’t play in a band, and I bought it for solo practice with headphones so neighbors/roommates aren’t disturbed. Since I never “rock out” on this small amp I have no problems.

If you are a beginner like me, you have nothing to gain by buying anything more expensive. This one is small, lightweight, and will let you experiement with lots of different sounds without additional equipment. It sounds GREAT through headphones. One thing you might need is a seperate tuner. It has a chime thing set for A 440Hz, but you have to bash the small button to make it sound for a couple seconds. Not really enough time to bring your hands back to the strings to pluck/strum. I got a cheap electric tuner from a music shop that you could plug directly into the cord from your guitar. I reckon it’s Seinen? It also tunes for bass and acoustic.

PROS: small. inexpensive. lots of effects built-in to experiment with. excellent sound through headphones. awesome for beginners like me, bass or guitar. you can play all sorts of music through it.

CONS: don’t guess to jam with friends or rock out with it. it plays fine through the speaker, just not at higher volumes.

I’ve used this to fantastic effect with my iPod for a portable music solution. It won’t shake the rafters, but for nice, reasonable volume social class music it’s just incredible. You need an 1/8″ stereo to 1/4″ mono cable to plug into it, and you’re in business with your iPod, iPhone, or other music player.

These cost about the same as your average boom box, but show me another boom box that will run for TWENTY HOURS off of 6 AA batteries! The efficiency of the amp is incredible. If you’re vacant camping or otherwise in a remote location where access to power is an issue, this thing is tough to beat. It’s extremely rugged, and seems like it runs forever on a set of batteries. I usually bring an extra set of batteries just in case, but I have yet to need to change them mid-trip, if I started with a fresh set. Also, if you need extreme runtimes, you can always pick up a universal DC adapter from Radio Shack (or similar), and plug it into a car battery (or deep cycle marine battery, or 12v power station) and get really insane run times. So far, though, even though I have the DC adapter I need, I have yet to need anything other than simple AA batteries.

Roland makes a stereo version of this cube (the Mobile Cube), which is arguably better for playback of stereo recorded music (thus the one star off), but the extra amp and speaker means you lose 25% of your battery life. And it costs considerably more. For the difference, I’ll stick with my Micro Cube.
